ISPA AND PRICEWATERHOUSECOOPERS FORM RESEARCH PARTNERSHIP

April 23, 2008

LEXINGTON, Ky. – As the voice of the global spa industry, the International SPA Association has taken an important step forward in validating spa industry research. ISPA has formed a partnership with PricewaterhouseCoopers to review the association’s studies as well as spa-related research produced by other groups.

“During the 2007 ISPA Conference, Jim Collins urged the spa community to ‘Be data driven.’ ISPA’s partnership with PwC demonstrates the association’s significant commitment to ensuring the accuracy of all research that exists on the spa industry,” said ISPA Chairman Jim Root. “ISPA has been producing quality research since 1999 and we take this responsibility very seriously.”

ISPA President Lynne McNees added, “ISPA has a long, successful history with PwC as we started working with them in 2000 on the inaugural Spa Industry Study. We are enhancing this relationship by first turning the spotlight inward and adding a second set of eyes to review ISPA’s studies. It is incumbent upon ISPA to ensure that all spa industry statistics are reliable as jobs and livelihoods hinge on these figures.”

As ISPA’s research advisory partner, PwC will provide independent peer reviews of research and offer commentary on the content. This partnership will allow ISPA to share expert opinions and reviews of spa industry data and trends. This information will provide valuable insights into reported research results, analysis and methodology, and ultimately aid members in interpreting the results and drawing direct correlations on how it will affect their business.

“The new partnership between PwC and ISPA emphasizes the trend towards research and surveys being viewed as integral to a strong overall risk management process. The findings from surveys drive many important policy initiatives and it is vital that they are conducted according to best practice. The new relationship puts research at the heart of quality assurance initiatives,” said Colin McIlheney, Global Research Director at PwC.
