ISPA Launches Twentieth Year of U.S. Spa Industry Study

Wednesday, 23 January 2019

The International SPA Association (ISPA) launched the 2019 ISPA U.S. Spa Industry Study on January 23, marking the 20-year anniversary of this study. Commissioned by the ISPA Foundation and conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), this study provides an in-depth look into the spa industry in the U.S.

The first U.S. Spa Industry Study was conducted in 2000 and highlighted the spa industry in 1999. Beginning in 2010, ISPA began partnering with PwC annually to conduct this survey with Colin McIneney, Global Research Director at PwC, leading the research efforts.

Focusing on what is know as the “Big Five” statistics, this research presents the newest statistics each year in the areas of total revenues, spa visits, average revenue per visit, the number of spa locations and staffing levels within the U.S. spa industry. ISPA looks to build upon the 2018 ISPA U.S. Spa Industry Study results which marked growth in all key metrics of the study, most notably a record high $17.5 billion in revenue.

“With this year’s study marking the twentieth anniversary of the ISPA U.S. Spa Industry Study, we are thrilled to continue our partnership with PwC as we build upon our extensive library of research” said ISPA President Lynne McNees. “We look forward to sharing this invaluable research with our members as we look to break new industry records in 2019.”

Findings for this study will be collected by PwC through a large nationwide survey of spa businesses now through March 15, 2019. All participants contributing to this study will receive a complimentary digital copy of the full study upon its release as well as a copy of last year’s compensation section immediately following completion of the survey. All respondents who complete the survey by February 6 will also be entered into a drawing to win one registration to the 2019 ISPA Conference & Expo, taking place September 11 – 13 in Las Vegas, NV.

Findings from the “Big Five” statistics will be released at the ISPA Media Event held in New York City on August 6 with the full study being released later this year.
