Sometimes it can be hard to keep up with the sheer number of days set aside to celebrate, commemorate or just to remember events or causes. Here’s one that everyone in our industry should do their best to take part in – Global Wellness Day. As it happens, it’s tomorrow, June 13th.
We have witnessed a surge in demand for wellness-related treatments in the spa industry. And no wonder – depression can lead to a myriad of health problems including sleep deprivation, obesity and stress. It’s no exaggeration to say that these issues can cause immense harm to people and strain already-stretched healthcare budgets.
The good news is that exercise, healthy eating and spiritual nourishment are proven cures that the spa industry can play a significant role in providing.
The main aims of the day are:
- To recognize the value of our lives
- To pause and think, even if for just one day of the year
- To be free from the stress of everyday city life and bad habits
- To make peace with ourselves
- To raise awareness about living well and increase motivation, not just for today, but for the remaining 364 days of the year
In just three years, Global Wellness Day founder Belgin Aksoy's dream to tackle depression now has 49 ambassadors spanning across five continents and 52 countries.
Here at ISPA, we have been doing our bit to help. We wrote extensively about the Global Wellness Day initiative back in the May edition of Pulse. ISPA members can browse that issue by visiting the ISPA website.
Are you doing anything special for Global Wellness Day? If you are, we would love to hear from you and if you take any pictures we would love to see them, so share them here. You can also share them via the Global Wellness day Facebook page!
